A trip to the Pocono region would not be complete without a visit to Milford. Located in Pike County, Pennsylvania, it is about a 90 minute car trip from New York City. With its rich history and vibrant arts community, this quaint town has a great deal to offer weekenders and day trip enthusiasts.
Milford is the home to the 13th Annual Black Bear Film Festival that is being held from Friday, October 18th through Sunday, October 20th. Friday's opening night will include the festival's Gala and a showing of Isn't it Delicious. Films will be viewed in the historic Milford Theater and at the "Salon" in the new Pike County Public Library. Jerry Beaver, Founder, Casting Consultant and President of the festival looks forward to this year's event. He said, "When you show good movies, the public is enthusiastic about the festival." He pointed out that people continue to compliment the selections and discuss the movies they have seen from years past. Beaver's chooses an eclectic line-up of films to suit many tastes.
While downtown Milford has many art galleries, boutiques, shops and eateries to enjoy, be sure to take the short drive to the National Historical Sight, Grey Towers, which was once the home to Gifford Pinchot and his family. Pinchot was a maverick in the conservation movement and was the first Chief of the United States Forest Service in the early 1900's. The mansion and impressive grounds make for a lovely visit and offer a remarkable view of the area.
When visiting Milford, we suggest stopping by their famous and historic hotel and restaurant establishment, Hotel Fauchere. It was once frequented by theater greats like Charlie Chaplin and The Gish Sisters. Hotel Fauchere is a gracious establishment that features exquisite dining to suit many tastes and excellent accommodations. Casually elegant, Hotel Fauchere has just been named one of Wine Spectators 100 Best Restaurants in America.
