The Lyric Announces New Shows: Roy Clark, 'A Night of Samba & Salsa' and Chamber Orchestra Kremlin

By:

Chamber Orchestra Kremlin
Monday, March 1 - 8:00 p.m.

The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has been critically acclaimed as one of the finest string ensembles in Russia, and arguably one of the best in the world. This group of Russia's finest young string players has earned international praise for its uniformity of performance, high energy and flawless execution.

The orchestra was founded in 1991 by Misha Rachlevsky, who continues as its music director today. Rachlevsky has skillfully molded these youthful virtuosos into a sonorous whole that is amazingly greater than the sum of its parts.

The San Francisco Classical Voice said, " . . . the Russians covered themselves and the music at hand with uncanny musicality, precision and verve. The 16 string players offered the sort of superb playing one expects only from a top string quartet on a good night."

The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin maintains an active concert schedule in Moscow and throughout North and South America, Europe and the Far East. The Orchestra's warmth and high energy create addictive performances that remain with audiences long after the last notes have been played.

A Night of Samba and Salsa

Wednesday, March 3 - 7:00 p.m.

The Lyric will come alive with the intoxicating sounds, colors and movement of the Caribbean, as more than a dozen vivacious entertainers present some of the hottest music and dance from around the world. Wearing authentic costumes, beautiful dancers will perform the salsa, samba, cha-cha, merengue, African Cuban dance and more, all to the beat of spectacular live music.
The show opener - a mambo - will take you to Havana's world-famous Tropicana cabaret, with fun and colorful choreography. Later, you'll get caught up in the contagious spirit of the Brazilian carnival. And before the night is through, you'll even have the chance to participate with some dance moves of your own!

This talented international cast, featuring performers from Argentina, Cuba, Colombia and the United States, has entertained audiences throughout the country and abroad, including Central and South America and China.

If the rhythm of Latin music moves you, you won't want to miss a dance step of this powerfully passionate revue!

Roy Clark

Friday, March 5 - 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The history of country music just wouldn't be complete without Roy Clark. This legendary entertainer used his musical talent and winning personality to bring country into the mainstream in the 60s and 70s, with a long string of hit singles like "Yesterday, When I Was Young," "Thank God and Greyhound," "I Never Picked Cotton" and "Come Live With Me." He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in May 2009.

Clark's versatility and universal magnetism quickly made him a household name. He showcased his knack for comedy as well as his musical chops as co-host of the popular T.V. show "Hee Haw" -- a gig that lasted an amazing 25 years. As a television personality, he also frequently guest hosted for Johnny Carson on "The Tonight Show," and had a recurring role on "The Beverly Hillbillies."

Clark's musical prowess is legendary. A concert favorite around the world, he was one of the first country artists to perform with an orchestra, the first to tour the Soviet Union, and among the first to headline Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden. He was named Best Country Guitarist for several years running by the readers of Guitar Player magazine, and received three awards from the Country Music Association for Instrumentalist of the Year.

Clark continues to wow audiences nationwide with his live performances, serving up the very best of country music with a heaping helping of wholesome hum
