Sony Holland, the acclaimed vocalist who is a longtime San Francisco favorite, will return to The RRazz Room with a series of concerts to welcome her back to the Bay Area. Her all-star band will include Andy Langham on piano, David Hughes on bass, Jerry Holland on guitar and Kendall Kay on drums. Ms. Holland has toured Asia, performed in prestigious jazz festivals and in premier nightclubs such as the Blue Note, Catalina's, the Dakota and many more. Her recent CD Sanssouci (Van Ness, 2010) features Sony backed by an organic trio of acoustic guitar, upright bass and djembe drum.

The Minnesota born performer has the talent and charisma that personifies the golden age of American music. Leaving behind her early classical vocal training, Sony began to find her own voice by singing on the streets of Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. That led to countless festivals and nightclub performances across the U.S. and three extended tours of Asia. Along the way she has become a true band leader. "On the road you need to earn the respect of the musicians or you'll never get the sound you want," Sony says.

As for her genre of choice she says, "I fell in love… that's the best way to put it. I fell in love with Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Anita O'Day, Peggy Lee and the lyrics and music of Cole Porter, Harry Warren, Rodgers & Hart, etc…" She continues: "They have been my idols and my teachers. They cared about their craft and got better with time."

The Rrazz Room at Hotel Nikko is located at 222 Mason Street, San Francisco, Calif. Holland will play tonight, June 7 at 8:00 PM, Friday, June 8 at 8:00 PM, Saturday, June 9 at 9:00 PM and Sunday, June 10 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $35.
