Nationally acclaimed vocalist Spider Saloff will make a rare appearance in South Bend for this elegant and romantic evening at the Palais Royal. Saloff will present a priceless collection of songs about love, many from the Great American Songbook as well as some lesser known material. She will also interject her own special brand of humor into the performance with antidotes about the songs and love itself!

Since the great success of her nationally syndicated radio series "Word & Music", Spider is known as one of the great interpreters of the American Songbook and has thrilled South Bend audiences in her stellar Gershwin concert with The South Bend Symphony Orchestra.
Miss Saloff will perform with area favorite, The Jim Steele Duo. This show will be a perfect tie in to your Valentine experience in the romantic glamour of The Palais Royal for a full evening of fine dining and classic music.

Ms. Saloff has played such renowned jazz and night club venues as New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center, Iridium, Joe's Pub, Birdland ,The Russian Tea Room, Michael's Pub, and The Algonquin, as well as San Francisco's Jazz at Pearl's, and Plush Room and Seattle's Triple Door. And Chicago's famed Gold Star Sardine Bar, The Green Mill, and the Fairmont Hotel.

Other leading venues include symphony orchestras and concert spaces such as; The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, Wilmington Grand Opera, Wallingford Symphony, The Castro Theater is San Francisco, and Town Hall and Dick Hyman's Jazz in July in New York.
Spider Saloff has recorded and performed with such jazz luminaries as Les Paul, Tom Harrell, Nick Brignola, Ray Drummond, Harry Allen, Mark Murphy and Dick Hyman. She has worked frequently with Larry Novak, Tony Monte, Steve Laspina, Ken Peplowski and Bill Charlap.


A five-time winner of the prestigious MAC Award, including one for Best Female Jazz Vocalist, presented by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets, she also received a special citation for her musical contributions from NARAS (presenter of the Grammy Awards).

Spider Saloff has 7 CDs released nationally on Kopaesthetics Records: 1938, Sextet, The Memory of All That, Cool Yule and A New Set of Standards, Like Glass.. Her Christmas CD entitled Cool Yule was a finalist for the Indie Awards. Her newest recording, Cole Porter Live at Maxim's was released summer of 2008. Television and radio credits include: The Bonnie Hunt Show (CBS), The Steve Baskerville Show (CBS), Centerstage (PBS), Artbeat (PBS), Words & Music (syndicated series, 57 episodes), a one-hour feature on the Noteworthy Women series (Public Radio), and Studs Terkel (WFMT).

Jazz pianist Jim Steele has performed throughout northern Indiana and beyond, including engagements in Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Washington D.C., and at The Blue Note, a legendary jazz club in New York City. Steele ranges from straight ahead bop and standards to modern jazz, jazz-fusion, and his own original compositions. He has performed as a solo pianist, in ensemble and big band settings, and has performed with artists such as Richie Cole, Ernie Watts, Steve Hobbs, and John Goodsall of Brand X. He has composed and arranged material for numerous jazz groups, big band, and studio recording projects. Steele has appeared on a number of CD releases, including his own albums "Who's There?' and "Neptune Rising". His music has received glowing reviews in national publications Option (Los Angeles) and Progression (Lowell, MA). He is currently a member of Jim Steele Trio, IPFW Faculty Jazz, New Millennium Jazz Orchestra, and freelances with other area groups.
