Relix Teams with Tommy Emmanuel & David Grisman to Premiere New Album 'Pickin'
By: Caryn Robbins Oct. 31, 2017
Esteemed guitarist TOMMY EMMANUEL and celebrated bluegrass mandolinist DAVID GRISMAN have partnered today (10/31) with RELIX.comto exclusively premiere their new collaborative album PICKIN' in its entirety. Click here to listen to the 12-track album due November 3 on GRISMAN's own Acoustic Disc record label. PICKIN' is available for pre-order now via iTunes (here) and Amazon (here).
Known for his virtuosic fretwork, fiery fingerpicking, and airtight songcraft,EMMANUEL continually shreds through boundaries with his acoustic guitar on these 12 new songs. Not only does PICKIN'reflect his signature classical, Americana, folk, and roots stylings, but it also artfully merges jazz rhythms, jamming, and unpredictability in the mix. Among many standouts, his playing seamlessly entwines with GRISMAN'S mandolin during the first single "Tipsy Gypsy" (watch the performance video here) as nimble picking converges on hypnotic hummable melodies. Meanwhile, "Cinderella's Fella" swings from a brusque and galloping opening into a passionate and poignant pastiche of harmonious technicality. Check out the full tracklisting below.
In 2017, "CGP" (Emmanuel) and "Dawg" (Grisman)--as the musicians are known--linked up and laid down these compositions. Bringing this chemistry to the stage, the duo will embark on the 12-date CGP & Dawg Tour November 3-18 (all dates listed below).
