Nassau County Legislator Dennis Dunne, Sr., together with radio station WLIR, will host a candlelight vigil and memorial tribute to New York punk-rock legend Tommy Ramone and his band, the Ramones, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 12:00 PM at Malibu beach club in Lido Beach, NY. The Ramones, who thrilled audiences around the world for decades with their unique musical style and lyrics, were named to Rolling Stone magazine's "100 Greatest Artists of All Time."

Ramone, a.k.a. Thomas Erdelyi, passed away from cancer last week at age 65. He was the last surviving member of the band, who played the Malibu hot spot dozens of times, entertaining thousands of Long Islanders with peppy numbers like "Blitzkrieg Bop," and "Rockaway Beach." Ramone, who was born in Hungary to Holocaust survivors, moved to the U.S. as a boy and grew up in Forest Hills, Queens where he eventually met his fellow band-mates and formed the Ramones.

The candlelight vigil and memorial tribute will take place at the famed Malibu beach club in Lido Beach, NY and will be open to friends, fans and family to pay their respects. A live musical tribute and performance will take place in the evening at the club. Considered the birthplace of alternative-rock music on Long Island, Malibu became a home away from home for the Ramones.
