Whipkey is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist from Omaha. He balances musical execution with artistic instinct, and has been described as "...hands down one of the best guitarists..." by music columnist and blogger Tim McMahon. Following the 2013 release of Penny Park, Whipkey was awarded the Omaha Arts and Entertainment Awards for Artist and Album of the Year that year. The Omaha World-Herald declared it "one of the best rock albums... A soundtrack of sunny rock riffs, bright as a drive down the California coast," and the Lincoln Journal Star wrote "Omaha's Matt Whipkey has created a masterpiece with 'Penny Park,' a 2 LP concept album that works from start to finish."

The 1200 Club transforms the Holland Performing Arts Center's most intimate venue, the Suzanne and Walter Scott Recital Hall, into a relaxed nightclub setting where patrons can experience performances by nationally and internationally known artists in jazz, blues and comedy. While enjoying the evening's entertainment, audience members may enjoy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails served right to their candle-lit table. Performances at the 1200 Club begin December 2 with Cyrus Chestnut Trio: A Jazzy Christmas. Additional performances include Shemekia Copeland (January 30, 2016), The Brubeck Brothers Quartet Tribute to Dave Brubeck (February 26, 2016), Cyrille Aimée (March 5, 2016), Ester Rada (April 29, 2016), James Tormé (May 6, 2016) and Kevin Eubanks (May 20, 2016). The 1200 Club series is sponsored by Mutual of Omaha.
