Madonna Memorabilia Among Highlights of 'Icons of Rock n' Roll' Auction Event

Julien's Auctions, the world's premier music and entertainment memorabilia auction house, held the highly anticipated Icons of Rock n' Roll auction eventthis Friday and Saturday. Madonna, Elvis and Michael Jackson memorabilia were among the highlights of the two-day event which had bidders from around the globe bidding by phone, online and in the auction room. Original estimates quickly became a thing of the past when bidders raised bids consistently throughout the two days.

The 'Material Girl' Madonna was among the most anticipated lots of memorabilia. Highlights of the Collection of Madonna included Madonna's film worn jacket from 'Desperately Seeking Susan' selling for a record $252,000 and one earring worn in the film selling for $34,375. Other highlights from 'Madge' included a Madonna worn gown from the film 'Evita' which sold for $15,000, Madonna's 'League of their Own' film uniform which sold for $31,250, Madonna's 'Who's That Girl' tour worn dress which sold for $50,000 and her 'Material Girl' video worn gown and stole which sold for $73,125. The wedding dress Madonna wore when she married Sean Penn sold for $81,250. Original Herb Ritts photographs of Madonna saw bids come in fast and furious. With original estimates of $600-$800, some of the photographs sold well into the double digit thousands. A Herb Ritts photograph of the music icon sold for $35,155, while another sold for $13,281 and $12,500. The 'Material Girl' proved her worth today as part of an auction that offered over 700 lots of some of the most iconic rock memorabilia in the world.

Legendary music legends John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and others brought excitement throughout the auction house during the two-day sessions. Other highlights of the mega-event included Stephen Stills' 1940 Gibson J200 guitar which sold for $43,750, Kurt Cobain's stage worn t-shirt which sold for $25,000, U2's the Edge's studio used Gretsch guitar which sold for $50,000, John Lennon's spectacles which sold for $25,000, James Brown's red sequined cape which sold for $43,750, Prince's original handwritten lyrics which sold for 'Erotic City' sold for $44,800, a Michael Jackson video worn jacket which sold for $41,600, a Michael Jackson Dangerous tour ensemble which sold for $51,500, Lady Gaga's Saturday Night Live publicity ensemble which sold for $20,000, Elvis Presley's gift ring which sold for $57,600 and an Elvis Presley overcoat which sold for $40,625. The King's 1976 NBN stage used guitar sold for $41,600.
