MUSIC ON THE GREEN Concert Series Features Free Entertainment, Family Fun

New Haven (www.infonewhaven.com) is gearing up to host its annual free concert series, Music On The Green, presented by Yale-New Haven Health. These two special Saturday events will feature the soulful sounds of The Stylistics on July 22 and the renowned, chart-topping singer/percussionist Sheila E. on July 29th. Each concert will start promptly at 7:30 p.m. with no opening acts featured.

"We're excited to present another year of free Music on the Green concerts for music lovers throughout the region," said Anne Worcester, Chief Marketing Officer of Market New Haven. "This New Haven summertime tradition is a great way for residents and visitors alike to experience everything that our city has to offer - great food, exceptional shopping, and celebrated culture while enjoying free performances by nationally recognized acts."

Both concerts will take place on the historic New Haven Green, located right in the heart of Elm City's bustling downtown. This season, local food trucks and vendors will be onsite as well for spectators to enjoy during performances.

The Stylistics: Saturday, July 22nd at 7:30 p.m.

The Stylistics, with their charisma, style and harmony, evolved into one of the best-selling soul groups ever, as the Philadelphia-based quartet, recorded a remarkable 12 straight-top ten hits during the early 1970's. In 1971, the group began its storied collaboration with producer Thorn Bell, the ingenious' creator of the "Philly Sound" to release their debut self-titled album. The Stylistics would capture the imagination of the nation women with their first single "You're a Big Girl Now", which immediately became a top-ten hit. The' Stylistics went on to produce 12 consecutive top-ten hits from 1971 to 1974, culminating with their Grammy-Nominated hit, "You Make Me Feel Brand New."

Sheila E: Saturday, July 29th at 7:30 p.m.

Sheila E. is a world renowned, multi-talented musician whose career has spanned over thirty years. Throughout her time in the music industry, Sheila E. has carved a name for herself as one of the world's most gifted and iconic percussionists, having collaborated with numerous talents such as George Duke, Marvin Gaye, Gloria Estefan and Prince. Sheila's current album ICON was followed by both US and European tours, as well as the release of her biography, The Beat of My Own Drum (Simon and Schuster).
