Popular boy band One Direction has joined forces with other British singers, including U2's Bono, for a special Christmas recording.

Sponsored by Band Aid, the artists will cover "Do They Know It's Christmas?" to raise money for Ebola relief in Africa. The song was originally recorded when philanthropist Bob Geldof brought together many popular artists- including Bono- to aid in the Ethiopia famine relief, also sponsored by Band Aid.

This new version has a few changed lyrics by Midge Ure to more appropriately fit the Ebola crisis.

"The record, it's a song, it's a track but it's an event, and the next stage now is to turn it into a phenomenon like it was in the 80s," said Geldof on the BBC. He also revealed that due to the cause attached to the song, the group will be recording it tax-free.

Geldorf continued, "It very much reminds me of 30 years ago. Everyone's bleary, pop singers, as George Osborne said, are not very good in the morning." The original 1984 recording raised 8 million pounds and has since been recorded in 1989 and 2004.

"It's huge to be involved," One Direction member Niall Horan said to the BBC. "Hopefully it goes to number one and raises a lot of money for a really worthy cause."
