MOMIX Dance Company performs 'Botanica' at Bass Concert Hall, October 28 & 29

By:

In a highly anticipated Austin appearance, revolutionary dance company MOMIX brings its breathtaking fantasy piece Botanica to the Bass Concert Hall stage for two incredible evenings, October 28-29. Since the early 1980's, MOMIX has thrilled fans in over 22 countries and has been featured on stage, screen, and television. Legendary choreographer Moses Pendleton combines athletic dance, riveting music, outrageous costumes, and pure talent to create an unforgettable multimedia experience.

Tickets are on sale now at authorized ticket outlets, which include the Bass Concert Hall Box Office, most H-E-B stores and all Texas Box Office outlets, online at www.TexasPerformingArts.org, or by calling (512) 477-6060 or (800) 982-BEVO (2386). For this engagement, H-E-B is offering a family four-pack to MOMIX for only $65. H-E-B family four-packs may be purchased at all authorized ticket outlets.

Botanica is a deepening of Pendleton's 30-year fascination with nature through its seasonal changes and transformations evoking beauty, fear, humor, and excitement. This four-part work creates a fantasy world of surreal images and childlike wonder brought to life by a cast of dancer-illusionists. Set to an eclectic score that ranges from birdsong to Vivaldi, Botanica reveals nature's changing imagery in MOMIX's signature illusionary style. Using large-scale puppets, projected imagery, and larger-than-life props designed by Michael Curry (The Lion King), MOMIX evokes a vivid landscape populated by Pendleton's whimsical, fertile, and mythical imagination. "You have got to use your imagination, and in our shows we try and create what I call ‘optical confusion' designed to excite brain cells and stimulate creativity," says Pendleton.
