'You, Not I: Exceptional Presence through the Eyes of Others' by Jennifer K. Crittenden is Released
SAN DIEGO, May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ Whistling Rabbit Press announced today the publication of Jennifer K. Crittenden's second book, You, Not I: Exceptional Presence through the Eyes of Others, a career advice book targeted at individuals who are seeking a promotion, a job change, or who would like to make a bigger impact at work. The book launch will be held at the California Women's Conference in Long Beach.
You, Not I contains savvy advice, specific examples, and tactical exercises about how to create a powerful presence through behavior modification. Crittenden gathered the material for the book from her research on executive presence, her clients at The Discreet Guide TM, a professional development training company, and her twenty-five years of working in corporate America.
The principles of the You, Not I method assert that 1) presence is the ability to manage others' perceptions of us through our behavior, 2) our capacity for change increases when we learn to see through someone else's eyes by developing empathy, and 3) exceptional presence may require some unconventionality as we become other-focused and cast off the me-orientation that is encouraged today.
The tactical application of those principles advises how to:
- discover your differentiators and use them to your advantage
- develop situational sensitivity to fit in or stand out
- create your unique persona to become more of who you already are
- practice using training techniques designed for actors and athletes
Specific chapters are devoted to self-analysis, sensitivity, interpersonal, verbal, style, situational and performance skills.
You, Not I also reports on a study of more than 400 professionals conducted by The Discreet Guide TM. Those results were released on May 15, 2014 and indicate that confidence about executive presence is correlated with greater seniority and education, and to a lesser extent, with age, but not with gender. The study questionnaire can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ExceptionalPresence
You, Not I is intended to be used either independently or as part of the Creating Exceptional Presence program offered by The Discreet Guide TM. The program is comprised of ten ninety-minute, one-on-one in-person sessions. Individual sessions are combined with customized developmental exercises, video analysis, and additional activities drawn from the program handbook.
