The modern literary world often relegates poetry to a room reserved merely for an appreciation of flowery language and rhyming words, but couldn't it do more?" Robin Elliott certainly believes so. In "To the Freemasons and Other Verses" (published by AuthorHouse UK) he writes about enjoyable topics like love and popular culture, but he also dives deep to encourage people to address many of the ills that face human society.

The collection consists of mainly short poems dealing with a wide variety of topics. The subjects touched upon include love, sex, religion, astronomy, natural history, the weather, the seasons and much more. Some of the poems deal with the author's experiences as a businessman dealing with corrupt freemasons and his subsequent admission to a psychiatric hospital. According to Elliott, the ensuing cover ups and intrigue have involved many people including local officials. Others touch on racial tensions, celebrity obsessions, the challenges of aging, political deceit, corporate trials and much more.

"The world is engulfed with political strife, factions of people fighting over nothing and a constant lack of ethics from large corporations," Elliott said. "My hope is that my work will help inspire discussion, if not action from new readers."

The poems are all based on personal experiences and show original and interesting insights into modern life. The collection is wide ranging and unusual, an eclectic mix to meet the palates of a wide diversity of readers from all walks of life.
