Writing The Photographer's Boy came easily to Stephen Bates who has been visiting Gettysburg for over thirty years. Bates, a seasoned journalist and correspondent for Britain's eminent newspaper The Guardian, has followed up on the success of his three previous works with this American history epic. The Photographer's Boy interweaves rich tapestry of three generations of Americans and their connection to the historic Battle of Gettysburg. With this year marking the battle's 150th Anniversary, it is an auspicious time to release both the digital and print version of this book. Fans of Bates' work for The Guardian as their religious and royal correspondent will enjoy this book that blends the meticulous research of an investigative journalist and the fresh prose that marks Bates' as an award-winning writer.

With more than thirty-five years of news reporting for the BBC, The Guardian, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail, Bates was named British religion writer of the year in 2005 and 2006. A regular broadcaster, he has also written for the Spectator, New Statesman, Time magazine, the Tablet, the Church Times and BBC History Magazine. The Photographer's Boy is a compelling homage to a site of personal loss, tragedy and heroism that marks Gettysburg's haunted fields which has captivated generations.

"The Battle of Gettysburg is a historic event that is fresh in the minds and imaginations of many Americans. Stephen, an American history buff from across the pond, has delivered a strong fiction offering of three generations of Americans touched by this battle. The Photographer's Boy is sure to be a historical fiction classic for many years to come," said Thomas Ellsworth, CEO of Premier Digital Publishing.

The Photographer's Boy follows the story of an aged veteran who, in 1863, had been a photographer during the US Civil War. In 1938, he ventures on a road trip from New England to Pennsylvania with his grandson and his grandson's girlfriend to return to Gettysburg for a last veteran reunion. There, he falls foul of an ancient and vengeful rival determined to discredit and humiliate him while uncovering his shocking civil war secret. Meanwhile, in modern New England after 9/11, a New York couple buys the old man's former home and uncover secrets not only of his life, but their own relationship. This work has also been submitted to the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation for the Guggenheim-Lehrman Prize in Military History.
