The Burma that author Saw Spencer Zan was born into in 1923 was very different from the Burma he fled in 1964. Zan's incredible memoir, "Life's Journey In Faith: Burma, From Riches to Rags" (published by AuthorHouse), tells the story of Zan's role in Burma's transition from British colony to independence and finally to the coup in 1962, which later caused Zan and his family to escape into Thailand.

"It is the story of a man and his faith, a family and its courage, and a nation and its triumphs and sorrows," says Zan.

Zan's story begins in British-occupied Burma. His father was a judge under the British administration and Zan was given the best education at Judson College. Everything changed in 1941 when the Japanese invaded. Zan and his family learned to lean on each other for support as the war came to a close and independence swept through the country. As a lieutenant in the new navy, he was detained and later imprisoned for three years. Upon his release, he became involved in Let Ya's attempt at a counter coup. Zan feared for his life and family. In 1964, the family fled into Thailand to escape persecution.

"Life's Journey in Faith" captures readers from page one as they are drawn into a peaceful Burma and witness its change firsthand. Zan's cloak and dagger intrigues will keep readers on edge until the very last page.

"The book appeals to readers on three levels," Zan writes, "first as an adventurous true account of life in a faraway land, second as a story of faith through tribulation, and third as a window into a nation of rich history and people, which is fast becoming prominent in the international, political and economic arena."
