Secretive elites guide our government leaders, according to the new book announced today, "Presidential Puppetry: Obama, Romney and Their Masters."

Washington insider Andrew Kreig exposes today's puppet masters and their government minions. In non-partisan fashion, he portrays in a gripping narrative fashion spanning a century their secrets, their methods, and what he calls their ongoing threat to the American way of life, as illustrated by the ongoing cutbacks in traditional freedoms and the social safety net.

The first book to analyze the Obama second-term also is one of the first to examine the 2012 elections. "Puppetry" reveals the inside story of the ouster of CIA Director David Petraeus and Karl Rove's attempt to shape 2012 election results. Also, the book raises new questions about several major second-term Obama appointees on matters overlooked during their confirmation hearings. Current through June 2013, the book reports with authoritative documentation the secret history of federal interception and storage of Americans' phone, email, and similar communications.

More generally, the book provides fascinating, important, and largely unreported biographical materials about the major party 2012 candidates.

"Puppetry" argues, for example, that President Obama has hidden important parts of his background, including details about a CIA front company that employed him during his first job out of college in 1983. In a 1977 report headlined, "CIA established many links to journalists, at home and abroad," the New York Times quoted the company's co-founder as conceding that it had hired some CIA employees to provide them cover among regular workers. Kreig carefully examines this and other evidence, including the Australian intelligence agency connection of Obama's lover at the time. The book provides a sober, in-depth, revisionist view of relevant materials that places the president in a more politically centrist position than commonly believed. Obama's early ties to the establishment, the author argues, make more understandable many of the president's current policies, such as his overall concurrence with Republicans in deregulatory and austerity policies widely regarded as friendly to Wall Street.

The author's research draws on diverse sources from across the political spectrum, as well as his own experiences. He reveals in "Puppetry" that his late mother - Margaret Kreig, a World War II Marine volunteer and best-selling author - was a covert CIA operative in 1972 when the Chinese government issued a rare invitation for her to visit the Communist nation as a VIP.

In providing a roadmap to reform on a variety of fronts, Kreig argues, for example, that the CIA and NSA's pervasive activities need to be discussed more openly, especially when spy agencies work closely with major private sector contractors that wield surveillance powers with scant public accountability. "Puppetry" is documented with 1,000+ endnotes. The sourcing makes it essential reading for civic groups, serious commentators - and all individuals who care deeply about freedom and their future.

About the Author: Andrew Kreig, 64, is an investigative reporter, attorney, author, business strategist, and non-profit executive based in Washington, DC. "Presidential Puppetry" grew out of his work leading the Justice Integrity Project, a non-partisan legal reform group that investigates official misconduct. In a diverse career, he has investigated corruption allegations against prominent judges, Mafia chiefs, and top officials of both of the dominant U.S. political parties. The major "Who's Who" reference books have listed him since the mid-1990s. He holds law degrees from Yale and the University of Chicago, and a b.a. in history from Cornell.
