Want to meet a famous author or two? Head all the way downtown. The final salon of the Spring 2016 season of Pen Parentis Literary Salons is upon us and the May theme is "Heavy Hitters." Pen Parentis Literary Salons are a community-building arts program sponsored by the literary nonprofit Pen Parentis created to break the stereotype of mommy-writer or dad-blogger. These salons feature a vast diversity of creative work by small groups of established and emerging authors who are all also parents in an elegant, upscale location. Readings are followed by arts discussions that engage the audience. Events are free and open to the public. On Tuesday, May 10th at 7pm, to celebrate the close of their star-studded fifteenth season, Rick Moody, Anjali Mitter Duva, and Morowa Yejide will read and sign books. All book-lovers 21+ are welcome to attend.

The event is held at the elegant Andaz Wall Street, 75 Wall, and the hotel also graciously provides complimentary wine and light refreshments. Roundtable conversations are moderated Columbia MFA classmates, award-winning writers M. M. De Voe and Christina Chiu. Books for signings will be vended with proceeds to support Greenlight Bookstore.

RSVP is recommended through the Pen Parentis website at penparentis.org/calendar. Previously featured authors have included Lev Grossman, Kelly Link, David Gilbert, Jennifer Egan, Darin Strauss, Victor LaValle, Leigh Newman, Nick Flynn, and a host of other glitterati who also happen to be parents. The Pen Parentis Literary Salons have been celebrating diverse creative works of writers that are also parents since 2009; they are a great place to meet industry notables.

After the May 10th event, Pen Parentis Salons are off for summer and will resume September 13th, 2016 with Simon Van Booy, Daphne Uviller, Thelma Adams, and presenting the 2016-2017 Pen Parentis Fellow!
