Nobody Rides For Free" is author Bonanza D. Jones' highly engrossing story that follows a young hitchhiker named Peter Bowers, who is based on the author, and his experiences as a hitchhiker from the late 1970s to the mid 1980s. Included in this interesting book is a brief history of hitchhiking, from its beginnings during World War I to the present. Read about Peter's adventures as he travels all over America and meets an assortment of strange and amazing people along the way.

While Peter traveled mostly by car, he decided to take a train ride in Portland, Oregon. Here's an excerpt from that adventure: "I walked over to the train the two hobo s had pointed out and began looking for an open boxcar. No luck. I was wondering what to do next, when I heard the air brakes hiss and the train started to creep forward. I impulsively jumped on to the ladder at the back of a boxcar while the train started to accelerate. As the train continued to pick up speed, I climbed to the top of the ladder where I could look forward over the tops of the cars. "Look at that fool hanging on to the train!" a boy shouted to his friends as I rolled by. They all laughed."

This immersive read captures the spontaneity and intrepid spirit that comes with youth and highlights how things have changed since the '70s and '80s. "Nobody Rides For Free" is a hilarious yet fulfilling read about a hitchhiker's life and travels.
