Darlene McDowell-Crenshaw's debut book "The Drifter within My Soul" (published by Lulu) shares essays and poems to encourage others to find and embrace the drifter within themselves.

In her memoir, Darlene McDowell-Crenshaw leads readers down an inspirational path through the struggles, thoughts and feelings of a drifter. Despite the risks of drifting, McDowell-Crenshaw believes that God provides angels to protect people when they travel, and that it is only when people become content and complacent that their lives have no direction.

"It is about leaving home, traveling from home, and returning to the home of ourselves. It entails the evolution of thoughts, perceptions, struggles, journeys, situations and circumstances, as we Drift throughout life as we learn and discover ourselves, as well as our inner Drifter - God."

An excerpt from "The Drifter within My Soul":
"I didn't change things that I could, because I was too busy trying to control reality. I didn't seek to release me from myself. As a result, I had headaches daily. I could only see myself as a mercy case, not realizing that I was filled with potential."
