In a world controlled by machines and devoid of any human control, demented scientist Dr. Benjamin Smith develops Serum 222, a miracle drug for cancer patients. His work becomes less miraculous and more problematic when his like-minded daughter, Carey Smith, uses the serum on a large group of humans.

In the desolate playground that Earth has become, those injected with Serum 222 become mindless, flesh-eating zombies after death and wreak havoc in the new science-fiction novel by Melvina Patterson, "Children of Eden" (published by iUniverse).

"Most antidotes and serums today can be manmade warfare agents," Patterson says. "Don't ever underestimate the power of the mind."

In this apocalyptic thriller, a series of stories develops and brings light to the plot. Each story details one character's interaction or experience with the serum or its zombies, making for a chilling narrative throughout the novel.

Readers will be left to wonder if the story's International Government Cloning program's "children of the future" will survive to make it to Eden - another part of Earth not yet tainted by the effects of Serum 222 - or if their souls are doomed to zombification.
