Woodhaven, N.Y.

Having spent a decade of his life in Iraq, author Joshua Ledra is well-versed in the reconstruction efforts occurring in the country after the removal of Saddam Hussein. He writes candidly of his experiences in the country in his new book, "The Truth About the Crisis in Iraq" (published by AuthorHouse).

Ledra's stay in Iraq enabled him to experience firsthand the culture and hospitality of the Iraqi people. In his book, he writes from the vantage point of someone who has fully experienced the country. From this lens, Ledra comments on the complexity of what he says is the ongoing crisis in Iraq, including the rise of ISIS.

Ledra uses his knowledge as an engineer to highlight the role of the United States in the rebuilding efforts in Iraq. His book isn't all commentary, though. He offers possible solutions to the crisis.

"This is a book that all readers will find stimulating and absorbing," Ledra says. "I recommend it to those who are interested in lasting peace in the Middle East."

An excerpt from "The Truth About the Crisis in Iraq":

"It appears then that the Shiite-Sunnis conflict that was dormant under Saddam Hussein will be here for a long time, unless Iraq is led by a strongman that can work with all to bring about national unity. What will be the price? In the meanwhile thousands of innocent people are being killed in Iraq, while the world's nations are pondering what to do. It is not too late, but time is of the essence. Whatever happens in Iraq will determine the future of the Region and the world."
