One mother-turned-tutor is on a mission to get children excited about reading, with the help of a dragon named Perry.

After raising three sons, Susan Coursey's love for reading with children took a new form - through tutoring. She was inspired to write her own storybook when she found that many children do not have access to stories that excite them and engage their imaginations.

"My work as a volunteer has always been centered on educating disadvantaged young children with at-risk socioeconomic situations," Coursey said. "I want to help children get excited about reading, even when an adult isn't around."

Coursey hopes to provide imaginative, creative reading to children whose parents may simply not have the time to share the joys of extracurricular reading at home.

"How Do You Make a Dragon Laugh?" is a quintessential children's book encouraging young readers to utilize their imaginations and expand their vocabularies. The book follows Lia in a magical journey to a faraway planet to help cheer up an ever-so-melancholy dragon Perry and aims at inspiring children to let their minds run wild.
