Although this is Hurst's testimony, the story could be told by just about anyone. Hurst says, "We built our lives together, both coming from dysfunction of some sort, starting with nothing, and yet became quite successful, and raising a loving family. Jan Hurst was raised being told she was just a girl. In spite of being discouraged from college, her husband and she both worked to achieve bachelor degrees while working, moving, and raising a family. Hurst continued her adult education to achieve an MBA and PhD in business management and worked to become a female executive at a time when women were not prevalent in IT. She had to change jobs frequently as a trailing military spouse and learn to adjust. Hurst also learned persistence, which was the most important characteristic next to faith.
