History and fiction seamlessly blend together in "An Uneasy Peace," the literary debut of Gloria Anne Barrett. This new novel paints a compelling portrait of 18th century Georgia as a state caught up in a whirlwind of religious intrigue, cultural differences and political revolution. It also depicts the lives of ordinary men and women who become enmeshed in extraordinary times.

"An Uneasy Peace" follows a group of settlers under the British crown and their struggles to find hope, freedom and a new life in a strange and unfamiliar world. At the center of the action are Bright Sun, the medicine man of the Cherokee tribe, Kachina, Bright Sun's daughter, Katheryne, Chief justice Charles; Sheriff Hamilton and Glomeister, the director of Indian affairs. Each of these characters possesses a secret and, as they slowly adapt to their new life, these secrets slowly surface, stoking conspiracies and conflicts.

Things take a turn for the worse when a serial killer starts preying in their village, forcing everyone to set aside their differences and unite to put an end to the killing spree. Now bonded, the people turn their attention to their need for freedom and start fighting for independence from the British Crown.

Brilliantly orchestrated and deftly paced, "An Uneasy Peace" is all at once a glimpse into life in 18th century America and a story of the sacrifices that are sometimes painfully necessary to achieve freedom.
