In this book, Chinese teacher Dan Liu arrives in the United States with an unwavering aim to reach his goal: to get a master's in engineering and land a white-collared job. But the odds are getting in his way. He not only struggles financially, but he seems to lose his ground and eventually gets lost morally. Just because of a dream, Dan sacrifices many aspects of his life.

He can't let go of the dream just yet. Not when he's one step closer to the life he worked so hard for. He still believes that he would make it one day. With hard work and perseverance like the few flourishing fellow immigrants whom he met in struggling journey, success can't be that far. But all that was wishful thinking.
