SOUTH DENNIS, Mass. - As part of a new marketing campaign this year, author Finbarr M. Corr's 2012 book "Broken Promises: Whatever Happened to Vatican Council II?" (published by Trafford Publishing) will soon be featured in an online book trailer created by Trafford Publishing and posted to YouTube.

After his 28-year stint in the Catholic priesthood, Corr decided to write a book detailing his views on the Church's recent controversy regarding sexual abuse on the part of a number of priests. Because he served as a priest before, during and after Vatican Council II, Corr contrasts his enthusiasm for the renewal of the church he loves with the fear of the Vatican's "curia," who feel threatened by the openness and shared authority initiated by Pope John XXIII.

"'Broken Promises' reflects on the role of the pre-Vatican hierarchy in the United States, Ireland, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany and Australia and some of their adversity to assimilating the mandates of Vatican Council II, like collegiality, shared authority and transparency in decision-making," Corr says.

Rather than placing blame on the hierarchy of the Catholic church, Corr says he instead empathizes with its unwillingness to acknowledge pedophilia as a reality in the priesthood. Additionally, Corr examines the context and consequences of Vatican Council II 50 years after it was convened, it's early promises, the popes and forces that have defined and managed its fate, and its consequent disruption in major Catholic populations throughout the world.
