A cute black-and-tan dachshund named Annie plays storyteller in the new children's book of devotionals "Annie Shares Bible Verse: Devotions for Young Children" (published by WestBow Press) written by Dawna Brister Penrod.

In 2013, Penrod wrote a book of devotionals for adults, titled "Devotions from My Heart." Shortly thereafter, the need for age-appropriate devotions for children was brought to her attention by young mothers and fathers. This inspired her to pen "Annie Shares Bible Verse," in which Penrod's own dachshund narrates scripture excerpts in a friendly, easy-to-understand tone.

"The situations depicted during the devotions are everyday occurrences that happen in most homes with children," Penrod says. "Annie the dog, being the storyteller, makes this book different from others of the same type."

An excerpt from "Annie Shares Bible Verse":

"On a rainy day we play hide and seek. While I lay in Dad's lap, Mom hides my green toy. Then I seek it. Seek means to search. Mom does not know that my nose is powerful. I use all my energy to run around the house until I smell my toy. Then, I look for it with my eyes. Psalm 119:110 says to seek God with all my heart. If I pray or do something for God with all my energy and mean what I say or do-I have searched or served (did something) for God with all my heart."
