Craig Johnson, Who Inspired 'Longmire,' Autographs Novels at Buffalo Bill Center, 7/3

From his home in Ucross, Wyoming, population 25, popular "Walt Longmire" author Craig Johnson writes mystery novels. Set in a fictional but vividly realistic Wyoming locale, the series follows Sheriff Walt Longmire and his cohorts as they investigate crimes and incidents large and small. Johnson launched his last two novels at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming; on July 3, he returns to the Center to meet and greet the city's Stampede fans.

Johnson's absorbing and complex plots blend the intricacies of Longmire's work as a law enforcement officer with the personal aspects of his life as a widower and father of a grown daughter, as well as his relationships with staff and friends. His insights into small-town life are no doubt informed by the author's current residence in north central Wyoming.

Johnson launched his last two novels at the Center of the West, and "As the Crow Flies" marked the series' highest debut so far on the New York Times bestseller list. Published by Viking Penguin, the novels have also inspired the hit television series that is now in its second season on the A&E television network. It stars Robert Taylor as Sheriff Walt Longmire, Lou Diamond Phillips as Henry Standing Bear, and Katee Sackhoff as Undersheriff Victoria Moretti. Craig Johnson serves as executive creative consultant for the series.
