With Pope Francis making changes to 2000-year-old doctrines, could it be time for Christians to put down their Bible and create their own one-on-one relationship with God?

Illustrating how Christianity is not just about actions, "Christ-Centered Consciousness" demonstrates the power of thoughts and feelings in one's consciousness. Author John Ryan exemplifies how his new book sets a standard for Christianity, in a nontraditional way.

"I am asking Christians to take it upon themselves to create a conscious relationship with God," Ryan said. "This book is very different from others in the Christian genre because it aims to take something nontraditional, and make it a Christian norm."

Through a spiritually guided journey from an unconventional gay Christian, Ryan showcases how Christ led him to the truth. After establishing a relationship with God through a concentrated state of consciousness, Ryan pens how Christ revealed his love for both hetero and homosexual Christians.

"For years I was uncomfortable with my sexuality because I was gay," Ryan said. "Then I began having strong spiritual experiences that confirmed Jesus loves me the way I am. I want others to push aside their insecurities so they can establish a relationship with our loving God."

Overall, "Christ-Center Consciousness" exemplifies how every Christian can create a strong bonding relationship with God by combining the psyche and faith.

"Having graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in psychology, I meshed together two interesting perspectives," Ryan said. "Using both my knowledge of the mind and religion, I want to spread an accepting ideology into the Christian world."
