Columbus, OH

Celia Banks, author of a series of children's books, will be speaking at local venues around the Columbus area in October. Her books provide an interactive learning experience for children while teaching lessons about living a Christian life. Banks will present storytimes at several Upper Arlington preschools and a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group in Westerville, in late October.

Banks, a former vice president of design for the International China Company and designer of products for such companies as Avon, Mattel, Hasbro and Horseman Doll Company, has taken her corporate experience and coupled it with her love of children and literature to create a unique series of interactive, illustrated children's books.

"I use a method of incorporating photographic textures to provide an interactive learning tool for young children," said Banks. "My hope is to introduce the Christian concepts of giving and sharing to kids at an early age so that they grow up thinking of others."

"This was one of the most high impact, enjoyable storytimes we've had for the children," said Jo Ann Ridge, Southeast Christian Church. "Your wonderful books are a natural for this setting. Your props and puppets are not only first class, they are also attention-getters."

Banks has written four books in her "God's Word Is Just For Me" series. The series uses creative art and dialogue to enhance children's reading and learning experience. Children can use these interactive activities to improve reading skills, learn textures, and engage in their environment and surroundings. "They want to touch the pages because of the tactile appearance that the illustrations have," said Banks.

Banks said she was inspired to write her first book, Jacob's Promise, after hearing a sermon about Jacob's most unusual flock of animals. The Bible has provided the inspiration for all of her books.
