New York, NY, 2016 - In Crystal Carousel, the debut novel by Page Publishing author Louis J. Manco, Sr., Billy McPherson is a professional football legend whose great successes on the gridiron didn't come without a few injuries, both mental and physical.

Although this is a work of fiction, Manco explores the effects of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), which is very real, and has been the source of interest in the medical world, as well as Hollywood, inspiring the movie, "Concussion" starring Will Smith. Like so many athletes today who turn to Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED) to ensure they remain in peak physical condition, Manco's protagonist, Billy McPherson, finds that the last hope to cure his arthritis, intense mood swings, and side effects of his CTE, is an experimental drug and treatment program offered by only one doctor in the whole world, a Dr. Alexander Markov.

When asked why he believed a story about a man whose devoted wife can no longer stand by someone so different from the man she fell in love with, and his desire to be well enough to play football again even if it will kill him, Louis J. Manco, Sr. said he had three goals for his book: "I wanted to write an exciting fictional novel that would interest a wide range of readers. Whether a reader enjoys character studies, sports drama, romance, saucy love triangles, or plots with climactic twists, he or she will discover it in Crystal Carousel. I also wished to shine light on the problems involving PED's and serious concussions in sports today. Above all, I wanted to leave the reader with a lasting impression regarding the power of the human spirit and the risk/reward ratio that one must consider when aspiring to greatness."

Readers who wish to experience this profound work can purchase"Crystal Carousel" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
