This new release from Dog Ear Publishing tells the tale of Ellie Johnson, who has been hired to tend her neighbor's garden for the summer. The job sounds easy, and maybe even a little boring, but when she arrives at Evelyn Wilson's house, Ellie's shocked to learn that Evelyn doesn't seem to know who she is or what she's doing there. Ellie has seen Evelyn at church weekly for most of her life, but she soon learns Evelyn is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's Disease and has trouble remembering close family members, let alone a little girl she saw once or twice a week.

Soon, Ellie develops a rapport with the elderly woman, and finds herself visiting Evelyn more often than her work in the garden requires. It is during one of these visits that Evelyn accidentally reveals a secret that she's kept for decades, a secret that could be dangerous not just to Evelyn but to her best friend, Millie. Shocked by this information, Ellie runs to her best friend and confidant, Cooper, who encourages Ellie to share the secret with Evelyn's family. Ellie's torn between her conscience and her loyalty to the sweet old woman who has come to depend upon her visits. Can Ellie keep Evelyn's past buried, or will she be forced to reveal the horrors of a cold February afternoon in 1928?

"Call Me Crazy" is a beautiful story of compassion, heartbreak and unconditional love. Ellie is an endearing girl faced with a difficult decision, and Evelyn's fading memory reminds readers that dementia is terrifying for the sufferers as well as the loved ones who watch them fade. Author Kate Taylor was inspired to write this, her first novel, after watching her grandmother battle Alzheimer's. She has a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in secondary education, and she teaches at a middle school.
