During the 1950s, commonly known as the McCarthy era, many motion picture and television creators were blacklisted for supposed communist ties. There remained, however, a creative outlet that still welcomed these artists-the Theatre.
Author K. Kevyne Baar is an authority on the theatrical history leading up to, and beyond the Blacklist. An Activist, actor, archivist, historian, and union stage manager, she brings a lifetime of professional, personal, and academic experience to her newly published book, Broadway and the Blacklist.
Theatre West is thrilled to offer their stage to Dr. Baar for her only scheduled Los Angeles book signing. After all, several founding members of the company were personally and professionally affected by the shadow of McCarthyism.
But this will be no simple book signing. As befits the topic, this will be a unique theatrical event. Along with her comments, Dr. Baar will join members of the Theatre West company in select readings from the book. She will then host a Q & A session with the audience and sign specially priced copies of the book.
The event will take place on Sunday evening May 5th at 7 pm as part of Theatre West's Sundays at 7 Series. There is a $10 suggested donation. Theatre West is located at 3333 Cahuenga Boulevard West, Los Angeles 90068. Street parking is available as well as no-host parking in the Panasonic lot across the street from the theatre.
Reservations can be made by calling (323) 851-7977 or emailing theatrewest@theatrewest.org.
