Weston, W.V.

Author Armando Almase always shared stories of his experiences in the medical field with his father, a family doctor and general surgeon. After Armando's father passed away, writing became a way to express the loss he felt. In "The Road to Burnout" (published by Xlibris), he reveals and shares his story to the world.

This book reveals the author's experiences as an EMS professional in Las Vegas, Nevada. The events described within the book are true and intended for mature readers. When one enters the profession as a first responder whether it be a police officer, fire fighter or ambulance attendant, they do so not for recognition or money, but rather to make a difference. Seasoned first responders may recognize the subtle transition of their job expectations; one may initially plan to "save lives", but experience can show that expecting to always "save lives" only causes frustration and ultimately burn-out . In this personal account, readers will learn that being a first responder can be about holding on to a single feeling - hope.

An excerpt from the book:
The city lured us in with no intention of letting go. We drove our trucks through the streets at high speeds, blaring our lights and sirens. There was no turning back and no way to stop; day and night we returned, driving into the unknown. We gave everything we had to the streets until there was nothing left to give.

By publishing this book, Armando hopes to reach all first responders and the general public. He will consider his book a successful endeavor if his story can, in some way, provide comfort, closure, or assurance to his readers.
