Just in time for the holiday season, L. E. Lomax's new entry in her series of children's storybooks arrives to delight young readers. With "A Saint Called Nicholas: The Christmas Legends Series, Vol. I" (published by Abbott Press), Lomax focuses on another cultural event that occurs during the Christmas season: St. Nicholas Day.

"A Saint Called Nicholas" is the story of St. Nicholas, the popular gift giver during the holiday season. It teaches children about the cultural differences among those who observe St. Nicholas Day. To help readers understand the idea of St. Nicholas Day, Lomax shows children his connection to Christmas, the popular holiday which also falls in December. Throughout the book, colorful illustrated paintings by Lomax portray different cultures to guide readers through the story.

An excerpt from "A Saint Called Nicholas":

"Riding the waves he comes from Spain,
In November, through snow or rain.
He brings his horse, so big and strong;
And friend, Black Pete, will tag along."

"A Saint Called Nicholas" is sure to entertain young readers, but Lomax points out that the book also teaches an important lesson. "This book will help children understand other cultures better," she says, "so they will learn to be more accepting of others."
