Springville Center for the Arts proudly introduces their Night of One Acts!

Matt Boyle, a member of the theater company,

discussed this three day event.

MCL: What is SCA's Night of One Act Plays? First year? How did the idea come about?

MB: We're calling it SCA's Staged Shorts! Yes, this is the 1st year. It came from equal parts--success and desperation! This season we had problems finding a music director for our musical. Sooooo,,,no musical, the season was in danger. We remembered the success we had with a night of one acts by Donna Hoke. The idea was generated at the committee meeting. A call for plays from local WNY playwrights. A call for directors from our SCA community. An opportunity for both newbie directors and wannabe actors. Mix in some experienced actors and directors.....and Staged Shorts was born! 1st year, but if all goes well or semi-well, I think we will do it again.

MCL: How do the plays get picked?

MB: 18 WNY area playwrights submitted 42 plays! The directors picked the plays.

Varied interests and varied plays.

MCL: The plays content?

MB: There's a play about the healing power of music and art. A play about presumptions about homeless people. A play about an abortion decision and how emotionally complex those decisions can be. A comedy about the Man in the Moon and a couple on a blind date. A comedy about a deeply, dysfunctional couple in therapy. A play about art and secrets--discovered and undiscovered! And a comedy about a talk show with a sci-fi element to it!

MCL: Play dates?

MB: Show dates are April 1 (8 pm), 2nd (8 pm) and 3rd (matinee at 2 pm)

MCL: How does someone get tickets?

MB: Tickets will go on sale in March
