Second Generation Theatre continues their inaugural season in residence at the Shea's Smith Theatre with Angels in America: Part One, Millennium Approaches. After the resounding success of the season opener, Big Fish, SGT switches gears to present one of the greatest theatrical journeys of our time. Heralded by the New York Times as "the most thrilling American play in years,", Tony Kushner's epic tale set in 1980's New York City manages to walk a line between heartbreaking and hopeful, irreverent and idealistic. Opening on March 8th, the production runs Thursday-Sunday until March 24th.

"ANGELS was the first purchase I made from The Drama Bookshop in NYC," says actor Ben Michael Moran, starring as Prior Walter. "It was a box set of both parts and all I knew was that it was rumored to be the newest modern American classic. At 17 I was too young and naive to understand all the nuance of Kushner's writing and the complexity behind the socio-political context of the story, but I was fascinated by his ability to speak these character's truths as effortlessly as water flows. As an adult I love and respect this script for its bravery, its timeless relevance and for bringing to light the human side of an epidemic that too many sought to keep in the shadows. I've always been a fan of pieces that make me laugh and cry, back and forth, draw me in to the heart of it and pull me out of it with a laugh and this play does that, especially with the right director. Prior is a dream role and when I heard Greg (Natale) would be directing, I knew this was a project I wanted in on."

SGT's Executive Director, Kristin Bentley, plays Harper Pitt- the wife of a Mormon lawyer struggling with his sexuality. She says "Angels in America is my favorite play. I was fortunate enough to see Tony Kushner speak when I was in high school, and at the time was completely unfamiliar with his work. From there I read and fell in love with Angels in America. There is so much for audiences to relate to in all of these complex characters."

Angels in America is directed by Greg Natale and brought to life by Jacob Albarella (Rabbi and others), Kristin Bentley (Harper Pitt), Steve Copps (Joe Pitt), Anthony J. Grande (Louis), Dudney Joseph Jr. (Belize/Mr. Lies), Kristen Tripp Kelley (Angel and others), Mary McMahon (Hannah/Ethel), Ben Michael Moran (Prior Walter), and David Oliver (Roy Cohn).
