Buffalo playwright James A. Marzo's play Cyrano Of Borough Park will receive its world-premiere production at the Thespis Theater Festival in New York City. The production opens today, August 14th, 2014.

The production will star WNY actors Bonnie Jean Taylor, Steve Brachmann, Tim Goehrig, and Victoria Perez. The play was developed in Road Less Traveled Productions' Emanuel Fried New Play Workshop (NPW) in 2013. Perez, who is reprising the role she originated in last year's NPW reading, will also direct the world-premiere production in New York City. Reed Rankin of RPM Event Design will design the set.

Two brothers pursue the love of a young woman living with her mother in Borough Park. Unbeknownst to them, their love interest is undergoing the final stages of sexual reassignment. This romantic comedy is centered upon the themes of acceptance and diversity which begs the question: can we escape the travails of our past and find happiness in new beginnings?

Cyrano Of Borough Park will run for three performances at the Roy Arias Stage II on the 4th floor of the Times Square Arts Center (300 West 43rd Street at the corner of 8th Avenue) in New York City. Showtimes are tonight, August 14th at 8:45PM; Friday, August 15th at 6:15PM; and Sunday, August 17th at 9:30PM.

According to its website, the Thespis Theater Festival Competition "is organized to help bring never-before seen work of playwrights, directors, and actors to the stage in a way that may lead to future performances. The Festival presents an opportunity to stage first-run plays for audiences with the chance to win prizes for Best Play and Best Actor."
