Pianist Inna Faliks makes her long-awaited return to New York City. Performing on the opening night of Bargemusics Here & Now Winter Festival, Ms. Faliks gives the New York premieres of works that she commissioned for her 2021 album, Reimagine: Beethoven and Ravel. Shell perform Beethovens Bagatelles Op 126 and Scarbo by Ravel, alongside new works by Richard Danielpour, Billy Childs, Mark Carlson, Tamir Hendelman and Peter Golub. Also on the program: the New York premiere of Voices for pianist and historical recordings by Ljova, written for Inna Faliks. The composer used vintage recordings of cantors from a century ago as inspiration and source material for this three-part composition. He incorporates recordings of cantor Gershon Sirota ("The Jewish Caruso), an instrumental folk dance and cantorial music sung by Yiddish actress and singer Fraydele Oysher into this work.
