Lee & Associates NYC announced that it has represented the landlord, BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) and the tenant, The Tatter Blue Archives Institute (TATTER), in a new 20-year ground floor retail lease at 230 Ashland Place in the Fort Greene neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Starting in September of 2024, TATTER’s new flagship will serve as a multifaced textile arts space featuring a café, library, and gallery, including special events, artist openings, public workshops, and a retail experience. Tatter is launching its first capital campaign this summer to support the new space and growth of the organization, furthering its mission to celebrate culture through educational programming and community events. TATTER explores the diverse medium of cloth to tell human stories and cultivate understanding.

“It is an honor to be included in BAM’s embrace,” said TATTER’s founder Jordana Munk Martin. “Our presence at 230 Ashland in Brooklyn’s Cultural District places textiles on a center stage, where they can do their work to inspire, express human identity, connect, and celebrate culture.”

Jeffrey Lopez from Lee & Associates NYC represented both sides in the transaction.

“BAM is America’s oldest performing arts center,” said Lopez, Director at Lee & Associates NYC. “The world-class arts organization was searching for a tenant who could contribute to the ethos of the Brooklyn Cultural District. The highly visible corner space garnered plenty of attention during its time on the market, but the synergy between BAM and TATTER, and their commitment to the arts, created the perfect win-win.”

"BAM is excited to welcome TATTER to the Brooklyn Cultural District. This new flagship location will offer a vibrant array of opportunities to further enrich and connect members of the community through art and design," said BAM President, Gina Duncan.

“We are delighted to welcome TATTER to the Brooklyn Cultural District. Through their remarkable work, the unique art and craft of textiles will be accessible to community residents and visitors through a diversity of artistic offerings. Congratulations to BAM and TATTER on this wonderful partnership,” said Beth Allen, Executive Director of the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance.

230 Ashland place is near the A, B, D, N, Q, C, G, 2, 3, 4, 5 subway lines, the LIRR and has nearby attractions including Betty Carter Park, Ft. Greene Park, the Barclays Center, BAM theaters, cinemas, and studios, BRIC Arts Media, Mark Morris Dance Center, MoCADA, Urban Glass, the Dekalb Market and much more.
