Acclaimed orchestral collective The Knights, flexible in size and repertory, are dedicated to transforming the concert experience. Led by brothers Colin and Eric Jacobsen and evolving from late night chamber music reading parties among a group of friends, The Knights engage listeners and defy boundaries with programs that showcase the players' roots in the classical tradition and passion for musical discovery. TheNew Yorker calls them "One of Brooklyn's sterling cultural products...known far beyond the borough for their relaxed virtuosity and expansive repertory." During their third season as one of BRIC's Artists-in-Residence, the group will be rehearsing works that will be performed at BRIC House and elsewhere, as well engaging with the community in a multitude of ways, including three concerts.

On October 22 & 23, The Knights present a program of Spanish and Spanish-influenced composers, anchored by "Master Peter's Puppet Show," a work written in the 1920s by Manuel De Falla, and featuring vocalists Awet Andemical, Alex Elliott and William Ferguson. However, instead of traditional puppets, The Knights' performance will be accompanied by live drawings created by Bushwick-based Syrian-Armenian visual artist Kevork Mourad. The evening will also feature performances of Jose De Nebra's "Seguidillas de Orestes y Dircea,"Francesco Durante's "Concerto No. 8 in A Major 'La Pazzia,'" Paco De Lucia's "Zyryab," and an original composition by The Knights titled "Love Sonnet to Pablo Neruda." This masterpiece of music, visual art, and narrative will be presented in its full form Saturday, October 22, and specially adapted for family audiences on October 23rd.

On December 10 & 11, The Knights will present a specifically Brooklyn-flavored "Schubertiade." Inspired by Schubert's own intimate, salon evenings of music, poetry, song, and art, the orchestra curates a special program celebrating Brooklyn artists. The evening includes readings of the works of Walt Whitman and other poets, and the world premiere of "Cathedral of Salt," a new poem by Pulitzer Prize-winner Paul Muldoon, set to music by The Knights. The ensemble also perform Astor Piazzolla's "Oblivion," Maurice Ravel's "Chansons Madecasses,"Heitor Villa-Lobos' "The Jet Whistle" and Antonin Dvorak's "Going Home" from Symphony No. 9, 'New World.' The full program will be presented on Saturday evening, December 10th, with a family performance on December 11th.

BRIC House is located at 647 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn. BRIC House is open weekdays and Saturday at 8am and Sundays at 10am.

This residency at BRIC is part of The Knights ongoing NYC residencies program, a three-year initiative funded by TheAndrew W. Mellon Foundation to help them connect even more closely with their native city.
