THE 69 HOUR BURLESQUE CHALLENGE Comes to Brooklyn This August
In the grand tradition of 24 hour playwriting festivals (but naughtier!), this explosive event challenges an audacious cast of striptease stars to conceive, create, develop, and perform an entire scripted burlesque show in just 69 hours.
Their countdown begins at 1:00am on Wednesday August 10th, when a concept for the show will be selected. Where will this concept come from? The public, who can submit their ideas at tinyurl.com/69suggestions. As the website states, the show will accept submissions of "theme, concept, genre, or even a whole title - whatever strikes your fancy! No idea too ridiculous to be considered! Is there a show you've always wanted to see, but no one has ever done? Throw it in the hat, maybe it will finally happen! A concept so stupid it could never, ever work on stage? Heck, give it a shot! We're up for anything." (According to the producer, the selection will be made by cast consensus, random chance, or some combination of the two.)
Once the concept is revealed, the seconds tick away as these seven performers write a script, create, choreograph and costume new burlesque solos, duets, and group numbers, memorize their lines, and finally bring it all to the Coney Island stage (as best they can) at 10pm on Friday, August 12.
"We've done a lot of things in over a decade of producing scripted burlesque plays, but BQNY Theatrical (formerly Pinchbottom) has never attempted anything this ambitious," says producer and co-star Jonny Porkpie, "or did I mean idiotic? Will it be a glorious hot mess? Or a bare-assed disaster? With a lineup this talented, one thing is certain: whatever happens, it's sure to be sexy, hilarious, and immensely entertaining."
Based on an idea by Fancy Feast, the 69 Hour Burlesque Challenge stars Anita Cookie, Miss Aurora Boobrealis, Boo Bess, Cerebral Pussy, Fancy Feast, Jo "Boobs" Weldon, Jonny Porkpie. With less than 3 days to make a masterpiece, they'd be flying by the seat of their pants... except they're not wearing any!
