Spark Movement Collective Presents ALICE IN WONDERLAND This Weekend

By:

Spark Movement Collective's newest production will be a modern-day interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, set to premiere in March. Breathing new life into this literary classic, Alice in Wonderland will follow Victorian-era Alice as she travels through the rabbit hole to find herself in present day New York City. As Alice encounters tourists, a sea of iPhones, tea drinking street vendors, and other curiosities, Spark examines how one person's perception of "normal" may be weird and zany to another. The production will feature choreography by Artistic Director Chelsea Koenig featuring an eclectic array of music.

Alice in Wonderland will be performed this weekend, March 12th and 13th, at 3:00 pm at BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange located at 421 Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn for a limited two afternoon engagement. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $10 on Spark's website and will also be available at the box-office 30 minutes prior to the show for $15. The performance is suitable for all ages.

Since its inception in 2009, Spark Movement Collective ("Spark") has flourished into a force on the independent and contemporary dance scene with Artistic Director and Founder Chelsea Koenig at the helm. Spark's mission is to create an accessible dance experience for audience members, dancers, and choreographers alike.

Spark captures the discrete elements of dance to deliver performances comprised of athletic yet fluid choreography and a brand of signature honesty intrinsic in the execution of pieces. This approach is bound together with a narrative that results in fresh, innovative, and meaningful pieces that uniquely connect with both audience members and the community at large.

In 2012, Spark self-produced its first solo show, Push to Play, at University Settlement's Speyer Hall on the Lower East Side. In 2013, Eavesdropped, inspired by quirky things that people say when they think no one is paying attention, premiered for two performances at Dixon Place. In June 2014, Spark premiered Impact, featuring live music from the New York-based band Cloud Fighter, at the Actors Fund Arts Center in downtown Brooklyn. The Golden Shoe: Cinderella Now and Then premiered in April 2015 to two audiences filled with families at The Town School in Manhattan. Spark's most recent production, Finding New York, premiered in September 2015 at the Actor's Fund Arts Center to sold out audiences both nights.
