South Street Seaport Museum Cancels DOCK ROCKS Party

By:

South Street Seaport Museum today announced the cancellation of DOCK ROCKS - Party on the Piers. The concert, originally slated for Tuesday, August 4, 2015, was to feature British rock icons Duran Duran, alongside special guest Wyclef Jean, amongst other exciting up and coming talent. Organizers are working on a community-focused concert fundraiser in support of the Museum in October as a replacement. All tickets to Dock Rocks will be refunded at point of purchase.

"After a tremendous amount of effort to maintain the date for next week, we are extremely disappointed to say that as of this morning we have had to cancel Dock Rocks due to unforeseen issues at the site," said Captain Jonathan Boulware, Executive Director of the South Street Seaport Museum "We had an incredible response to the event, which included a selection of VIP boat experiences, alongside the concert on the pier, but location logistics have now precluded our moving forward with Tuesday's event in the way that we had originally envisioned. Our plan is to host an alternative fundraiser in the fall, that will include many of the same performances, as well as an opportunity to enjoy everything that the Seaport has to offer, while supporting the Museum that was so badly damaged during Hurricane Sandy. We thank our sponsors and partners within the city for their help in planning."

In response to the news that the show had been cancelled, Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon said this morning: "We are really sad that next week's show is now not happening. We love that part of the city and were very much looking forward to playing against that incredible skyline in support of the Seaport Museum. We are in town this week to launch the first single from our new album 'Paper Gods' and were hoping to give fans a chance to hear a couple of tracks from the new record. Our two weekend shows in Port Chester are sold out but we are headlining our friend Nile Rodgers' festival in Riverhead, on August 5th - so hope that perhaps disappointed fans can come and see us there instead."

South Street Seaport Museum is a non-profit cultural institution located in the heart of the historic South Street Seaport district in New York City. Founded in 1967, the South Street Seaport Museum preserves and interprets the history of New York as a great port city. Designated by Congress as America's National Maritime Museum in 1998, the Museum houses galleries and performance spaces, working nineteenth century print shops, a maritime library, a maritime craft center, and a fleet of historic vessels that all work to tell the story of "Where New York Begins."
