Sarah Slipp Will Perform a Night of Original Music This Week
The performance is on April 10.
Coming off a successful concert reading of Bend Toward the Light, a new musical written with collaborator Bryce Palmer, at the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival, Sarah Slipp will be performing selections from the show at PinkFrog Cafe in Williamsburg at 6:30 pm on Thursday, April 10th. Bend Toward the Light tells the story of two fraternal twins, Asher and Willow, as they venture into the woods to find a time capsule that they buried with their late father. This intimate set at PinkFrog will also include a variety of Slipp's other original songs, written with many talented collaborators.
In the past year, Sarah Slipp has quickly become a rising star in the indie theatre scene. Her work spans various genres, from heartbreaking ballads to upbeat rock songs, all underpinned by an authenticity that resonates deeply with her audiences. Slipp enjoys writing stories that interrogate the intricacies and complications of familial relationships and the choices that define them. She is passionate about the way that music can be used as its own dramatic language, and help deepen an audience's experience of a story.
Since graduating in May from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch, Slipp has had her work performed at Joe's Pub, 54 Below, participated in the competitive Maestra Mentorship Program, made her off-off-Broadway debut as a flautist, and was selected for the Maestra First Takes Program as an orchestrator. Slipp and Palmer also recently hosted a reading of their musical at the Dramatists Guild Foundation in February to a packed house.
Her upcoming performance is part of Breaking Sound's showcase of new artists, with Slipp kicking off a night of exciting new music from fellow up-and-coming theatre composers. Slipp's set will feature writing collaborators Bryce Palmer, Alivia Quattrocki, Kathleen Hutten, Jay Richard and Yael Karoly, including orchestrations by Paige Menneci and performances by Alivia Quattrocki, Jay Richard, Minju Michelle Lee, Paige Menneci and Jackson Feudtner. Slipp will accompany on keys, with Sam Novotny on drums and Paige Menneci on guitar.
Next up for Slipp will be the Syracuse New Works, New Voices Festival at the end of April, where she and Palmer were selected to workshop Bend Toward the Light with Syracuse University's Department of Drama.
