Sara Bareilles To Inspire Brooklyn Children's Theatre Kids To Be Brave

Six-time Grammy nominated vocalist Sara Bareilles will be featured at the Brooklyn Children's Theatre's (BCT) first annual gala, BROOKLYN ON BROADWAY, a night of show tunes and inspiration to support musical theater scholarships. The event will also include performances from Broadway's Frozen stars Jelani Alladin and Patti Murin along with Jordan Fisher (Hamilton, Dancing with the Stars) at the Edison Ballroom, 240 West 47th Street in New York on Monday, October 15, 2018.

Tony-nominated actor Jeremy Shamos (Clybourne Park, Meteor Shower) and veteran actor Nina Hellman (Wet Hot American Summer) will emcee the gala from 7-10pm.

BROOKLYN ON BROADWAY'S major sponsors are Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the Oscar and Grammy-winning, married songwriting team behind the Disney animated film and current Broadway stage adaptation, Frozen, featuring the Oscar and Grammy winning hit "Let it Go." Their Oscar-winning song "Remember Me" was featured in Pixar's Coco. Bobby, co-creator of Book of Mormon and Avenue Q, is the youngest person to win an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards).

Bareilles catapulted onto pop music charts in 2007 with "Love Song," which ranked #1 in 22 countries. She has been nominated for six Grammy awards, an Emmy ("Jesus Christ Superstar"), and a Tony for composing the music and lyrics for "Waitress," her Broadway debut. Sara's 2015 memoir, Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song, was a New York Times bestseller.

At BROOKLYN ON BROADWAY, Broadway veterans will be joined by a host of talented BCT student performers: Mina Belrhazi, Aysha Benjamin, Sophia Davis, Marian Hernandez, Katie Lopez, Christopher Martinez, Madden Novogratz, David Ogundipe, Aiden Raheb, Angelina Venetian. The youth represent Nigeria, Guyana, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Morocco, and Brooklyn!

The BCT gala will also include an auction offering prime theatre tickets with backstage tours, a New Orleans vacation home, membership to the new Brooklyn Chelsea Piers, and a VIP Brooklyn Nets ticket package. Bidders do not need to be present to participate or donate.

In addition to major support from the Lopezes, BROOKLYN ON BROADWAY has been made possible by chairs John and Tina Novogratz; major sponsors are Disney Theatrical Productions and Michael and Sukey Novogratz; co-chairs are Sarah and Simon Collier, Mindy and Joshua Greenberg, and Morgan Stanley Co.

BROOKLYN ON BROADWAY will fund scholarships for youth who would otherwise not have access to musical theatre training. Since its' founding in 2004, BCT has served thousands of students, including hundreds of low-income youth. BCT's unique Oasis program brings musical theatre to children living in family shelters and provides ongoing support to those families. No child has ever been refused for an inability to pay.
