More than 25 Artists to Open Spaces to the Public at GOWANUS OPEN STUDIOS 2017

Spaceworks has announced that, as part of Gowanus Open Studios 2017, 25+ artists with studios at Spaceworks Gowanus will open their spaces to the public, October 21 & 22.

The event, a celebration of the dynamic Brooklyn community's artistic output, also offers a perfect introduction to the vital service Spaceworks offers: the provision of affordable space for artists working in New York City. Visitors to the nonprofit's studios will glimpse the kinds of art and ideas that can thrive when artists aren't constrained by prohibitive real estate costs.

Also on view will be an exhibition of 13 Spaceworks artists works in Spaceworks' gallery space, presented by Arts Gowanus.

Gowanus Open Studios 2017 takes place 12-6pm on October 21 and 22. Spaceworks Gowanus is located at 540 President Street, Brooklyn, NY. The event is free.

Gowanus Open Studios is an enlivening annual weekend event that turns a Brooklyn neighborhood into a labyrinthine art exhibit, providing the public with the opportunity to wander between the creative dens of over 300 artists in total, glimpsing the unique environments in which their visions are constructed. Touring individuals can stop and talk with artists about their work and processes. Spaceworks' fostering of artistic community is reflected in their partnership with Arts Gowanus for this event-with the public getting a view of the potentials of affordable art-making in the neighborhood, and with Gowanus-based Spaceworks artists having yet another platform to share their work and the intricacies of its creation.

Established in 2011, Spaceworks is a nonprofit cultural community development organization dedicated to expanding the supply of long-term, affordable rehearsal and studio space for artists working in New York City.
