Hit the Lights! Theater Co. to Present NYC Premiere of WHALES
Hit the Lights! Theater Co. will present the NYC premiere of WHALES at The Hive NYC.
Inspired by punk rock, game shows, documentaries, and Herman Melville's seminal masterpiece Moby-Dick, Hit the Lights! Theater Co. invites you to catch a glimpse of the world that brought us a certain legendary white whale and the men that hunt him. Diving into the unknown, HTL! explores the classic title using their iconic shadow puppetry, the interplay between darkness and light, rock ballad sea shanties, and all the curiosity and terror of the sea.
Prior to its new adaption, WHALES premiered at the Portfringe Festival to sold out audiences.
WHALES features Hit The Lights! Theatre Company members Samantha Blain, Kristopher Dean, ClaRon Hayden, Casey Leach, Carli Rhoades and Mikayla Stanley. Our production of WHALES is a candidate for the New York Innovative Theatre Awards. You can vote for us at www.nyitawards.com. Just click "Cast Your Vote".

Hit The Lights! is an award winning company created out of an artistic agreement to tell simple stories through unconventional ways. Using found materials, flashlights, and cardboard HTL! specializes in the transformation of the ordinary into the extraordinary. HTL! also focuses on the interplay between darkness and light, utilizing shadow puppetry as the lifeblood of their storytelling. The company is comprised of six experienced multidisciplinary artists: puppeteers, actors, musicians, vocalists, artisans, and everything in between.
Over the past four years HTL! has appeared at the Cincinnati Fringe Festival, where DUNGEON won the Audience Pick of The Fringe, the New York International Fringe Festival, and Portland Maine's Portfringe, earning another Critic's Pick for their newest shadow play, an adaptation of Moby Dick entitled WHALES. This October HTL! participated in an artistic collaboration with the Know Theatre of Cincinnati, creating a world premiere immersive theater experience. The Other Rhine, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, Sleep No More, and haunted houses, led audiences on an abandoned brewery tour gone awry. Creating a work that combined HTL!'s dynamic lighting style with local Cincinnati brewing history. The Other Rhine chilled Cincinnati audiences in a sold out run.
