DR. KARA KIBARA – THE LOVE GURU to Play EdFest 2026 at Brooklyn Arts House

The Ally Artists Group is proud to present Dr. Kara Kibara – The Love Guru, a reimagined hybrid performance that first introduced audiences to Dr. Kara at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025. Under its former title, #40sandsingle, the work established itself as a sharp theatrical exploration of love, self-presentation, and the performance of emotional certainty. In 2026, the piece returns in a newly developed form, selected for presentation at EdFest 2026 in New York City at The Brooklyn Arts House on July 16, 2026 at 9:00 PM.

At Edinburgh, audiences met a woman who seemed to have all the answers about love. That first iteration of the work introduced Dr. Kara's playful authority, her “transformational” advice, and the comic tension at the heart of a character who appeared fully in control of her own romantic destiny. The new version expands on that foundation, allowing the mask to slip and revealing the contradictions beneath the persona. The result is a richer, riskier, and more intimate evolution of the original work. The production received strong early attention at Edinburgh, including the response: “FOUR STARS!!” EDFEST and “Edfringe Talk25's Hottest Preview in Town” Get Your Coats On!

Reimagined for 2026, the piece blends musical cabaret, comedy, and interactive theatre into an intimate and unpredictable experience. Dr. Kara delivers her signature guidance through original songs, nostalgic musical callbacks, and audience participation. As she builds her case for manifesting the perfect relationship, fragments of her own story begin to surface—messy, contradictory, and unresolved. The performance lives in the tension between performance and truth, asking what it means to appear healed in a world obsessed with self-improvement, and what happens when that performance begins to crack.

Each night evolves differently, shaped by the audience and by Kara's own unraveling. “I created Kara as someone who believes she's mastered love,” says Joyce Lao. “Bringing her back now, I'm more interested in what happens when she hasn't. It's funnier, riskier, and much more honest.”

With its blend of humor, music, and vulnerability, Dr. Kara Kibara – The Love Guru continues beyond its Edinburgh origins as a deeper and bolder evolution of the original work. The production reflects The Ally Artists Group's commitment to adventurous performance that invites audiences into stories shaped by wit, intimacy, and emotional complexity.
