DIVERSITY RISING: A CONCERT to Bring Local Performers Together at The Paper Box
Voices of local actors and musicians will come together to celebrate their talents at Diversity Rising: A Concert.
Produced by an up and coming film director, Rantea Thompson, the concert will raise the voices of underrepresented theater actors and actresses in New York City with performances by Matt & The Mustang, C. Michael, Meredith McKay, Lauren, Permanent Wave, Grace Bennett, Doris Ellen Estallo, Jennifer Kim, and Shae Marie.
"An evening of delicious food catered by Chef Erika Allen, great drinks, and extremely talented performances is an evening not to be missed," says Thompson. "Many performers are underrepresented in their communities, and my goal is to bring them to the spotlight."
As an actor and a director, Thompson has had her fair share of industry obstacles to overcome. "I feel that if I do not advocate for representation of other cultures in entertainment that many youths will feel that they do not have a place in this industry, and that is just not true. There is a place for everyone, and we must make sure that they are represented."
Thompson's Changing the Narrative: A Documentary is a series of full-length chapters with a cast of actors that are tackling issues in theater and coming up with solutions. This chapter will address ethnicity.
Changing the Narrative: A Documentary stars Alex Palmer, Jay Tee Torres, Tahj Howard, Tameisha Peterson, Bonnie Jackson, Lisa King, Nina Fernandez, Jasmine Malave.
Diversity Rising: A Concert will be held from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017, at The Paper Box, 17 Meadow St., Brooklyn, NY 11206. The event is 21+.
